Weaker new car market in August
6 Sep 2006- August new year car market down 6.1 per cent to 77,961 units
- Year to August total down 4.3 per cent to 1,487,898 units
- Diesel registrations post small rise, up 0.6 per cent to 30,320 in August
- Year to date, diesel rose 2.3 per cent to 558,599 cars. 37.5 per cent market share.
‘August has become a quiet month for the new car market,’ commented 91³ÉÈË chief executive Christopher Macgowan. ‘However, although fuel prices have fallen recently, the outlook is still clouded by economic uncertainty and the effect this has on consumer confidence. Despite a subdued market, September is still key. A host of manufacturer-led deals mean there will be plenty of opportunities for motorists to do a deal on the forecourt.’
