Students embrace Castle Bromwich manufacturing challenge
14 Oct 2013Students from a Sheffield school were given behind-the-scenes access to Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 manufacturing facilities last week as the company opened the doors to its Castle Bromwich plant.
Run as part of the joint industry-government See Inside Manufacturing initiative, the event gave the pupils unique access to the Jaguar XJ production lines to discover the workings of modern car production. Having learned about JLR鈥檚 lean manufacturing process, the students tried their hands at programming miniature robots, before taking part in a production challenge designed to simulate a real assembly line.
Les Ratcliffe, Head of Community Relations at Jaguar Land Rover, said, 鈥淲e were delighted to host this visit, which is one of more than 20 See Inside Manufacturing events we鈥檙e holding at our design, engineering and manufacturing sites this month.
鈥淥ur award-winning 鈥業nspiring Tomorrow鈥檚 Engineers鈥 education programme has been developed to enthuse and inspire the next generation of engineers and we hope this visit has encouraged more young people to pursue engineering careers at Jaguar Land Rover.鈥
