Greenpower builds students’ enthusiasm for sustainable engineering
13 Mar 2015In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week (9-13 March 2015), 91成人 hosted Greenpower Education Trust鈥檚 live build of an electric racing car, with help from Chelsea Academy鈥檚 Formula E School Series team. 聽The students were joined by 91成人 Chief Executive, Mike Hawes, who helped to build the car.
The Formula E School Series invites students to build and race their own all-electric racing cars, and mirrors the domestic championships (IET Formula Goblin, IET F24, IET F24+ and Silverline Corporate Challenge) run by West Sussex-based Greenpower.
Greenpower Education Trust Chief Executive, Jeremy Way, said, 鈥淥ur main aim is to help the next generation of British engineers develop their technological know-how in a fun and competitive environment. The live build is a perfect example of how we aim to do this.
鈥淭he children participating were a credit to their school and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the months ahead.鈥
The Greenpower Education trust charity was established in 1999 to encourage and inspire young people to follow careers in sustainable engineering and technology.
More than 500 schools in the UK participate in Greenpower, and school numbers are increasing with its international appeal in the USA, South Africa, Poland, Ireland and Portugal. London鈥檚 Battersea Park will host Formula E鈥檚 inaugural season finale on 27-28 June,聽with a crowd of several thousand expected to watch.
