‘Black Country Bullet’ shows off UK auto manufacturing talent
12 Nov 2013A local investment organisation has found an innovative way of demonstrating the prowess of the UK automotive industry – by ‘building’ a virtual car almost entirely out of domestically sourced parts.
Launched today at the Advanced Engineering UK exhibition, the virtual is the fruit of collaborative funding from the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership and Business Birmingham. 70% of its components are made by Black Country-based automotive suppliers, which number more than 500.
The automotive supply chain is vital to the UK economy; it generates £4.8 billion of added value each year, and around 82,000 people are employed by companies regarding themselves as ‘automotive’ suppliers.
